In 2015, the urbanization level of the elderly in China was generally improved, and the urban elderly population accounted for 52.0%; the age structure of the elderly population was relatively young, and the elderly population (60-69 years old) accounted for 56.1%; the education level of the elderly population was greatly improved, and the illiteracy rate The decline was 29.6%.
Judging from the family relationship of the elderly, the concept of "nurturing children to prevent old age" is undergoing profound changes. From the perspective of health care, the overall health of the elderly has improved. In 2015, the proportion of elderly people with medical insurance in urban and rural areas reached 98.9% and 98.6% respectively, up 24.8 and 53.9 percentage points respectively from 2006. This is also a major achievement in the elderly health care business in the world's oldest country.
From the perspective of economic conditions, the income of urban and rural elderly has grown steadily, but the income gap is still large. In 2014, the average income of urban elderly in the country was 23,930 yuan (RMB, the same below), which was 3.24 times that of 2000. The average income of rural elderly is 7621 yuan, which is 4.62 times that of 2000.

However, the survey results also show that the elderly in contemporary China still face many problems, including the continuous increase in the number of elderly people, the aging of the population continues to increase; the overall income level is not high, due to the old return to poverty, the risk of poverty due to illness; disability, The number of elderly people with half-disability is large, the demand for care services continues to rise; the construction of livable construction is lagging, and the people are not prepared for life in old age.
