Since 2002, the city has continued to hold the filial piety culture tourism festival based on rich filial cultural resources, which has had a profound impact on the whole province. This year, the city will hold the 2017 China Xiaogan International Geriatric Health Industry and Rehabilitation Aids Expo into the filial piety tourism festival, in line with the city positioning of Xiaogan to build a Chinese cultural city.

As of 2016, the number of elderly people over 60 years old in the city has exceeded 900,000, accounting for more than 17% of the total population, which is higher than the national average.
