According to Xinhua News Agency, Premier Li Qiang presided over an executive meeting of the State Council on January 5th to study policy measures for developing the silver economy and enhancing the well-being of the elderly. He reviewed guidance on further optimizing government services, improving administrative efficiency, and promoting "efficient handling of one task", listened to reports on ensuring the payment of wages for migrant workers, discussed the "Accounting Law of the People's Republic of China (Revised Draft)" and the "Energy Law of the People's Republic of China (Draft)", and approved the "Interim Regulations on the Management of Carbon Emission Rights Trading (Draft)".
The meeting emphasized that developing the silver economy is an important measure to actively respond to population aging and promote high-quality development, which is both beneficial for the current and long-term. We must effectively fulfill the government's responsibility of ensuring basic and bottom line living standards, strengthen the basic livelihood guarantee for the elderly, and increase the supply of basic public services. We should make good use of market mechanisms, fully leverage the roles of various business entities and social organizations, better meet the diverse needs of the elderly at multiple levels, and jointly promote the development and growth of the silver haired economy. We need to continuously improve relevant policies and measures, with a focus on solving urgent and difficult problems such as home-based elderly care, medical treatment and medication, and health care for the elderly, so that they can enjoy a happy old age.
